The ratings race, updated 11am Saturday
Sometimes people who see conspiracies around them are paranoid psychotics. And sometimes sinister schemes are really afoot. The Friday, Saturday and weekly ratings charts from OzTAM were sent out with no distinction between the main stations and their digital offshoots. Thus Nine programs and GO programs were simply listed as Nine, Seven and 7TWO were lumped together as Seven, ABC1 and ABC2 were just ABC, etc. This reduces the reader's ability to spot viewing trends. Was OzTAM, which prides itself on its accuracy, asked to blur its results by the networks? Was this change designed to conceal how few people are watching the digitals?

The ratings race, updated 10 am Friday
This weekend every channel will send out its self-aggrandisement spin for the year, claiming to have captured particular demographics to cover its losses with the total audience. Watch this space on Sunday morning for the facts behind the mythmaking. At this point in the week, the prime time audience shares are: SBS1&2 5.1 per cent; ABC1&2 14.1; Ten&ONE 23.0; Nine &GO 27.2; Seven&7TWO 30.5.

The ratings race, updated 10am Wednesday
The two new commercial digital channels did not increase their audience share yesterday, despite the arrival of their trains on the Foxtel platform. Presumably all their potential new viewers were stuck on the final of Packed To The Rafters. At this point in the week, the prime time audience shares are: Seven 29.2 per cent; Nine 24.5; Ten 21.4; ABC1 12.5; SBS1 5.3; GO 3.0; 7TWO 1.9; ABC2 1.8; ONE 0.7; SBS2 0.3. Tonight's final of Celebrity MasterChef will signal the start of the silly season.

The box office race, updated 10 am Tuesday
The Twilight Saga: New Moon sold $16.1 million worth of tickets over the weekend, topping the opening weekend earnings of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince ($14.3m) and Lord of the Rings: Two Towers, ($14.1 M). (To compare with the all time record breakers, go to The films Australia loved).

By all accounts TTSNM is slow and sentimental. Any reader of this forum care to give us a review?

Presumably everyone was out at the flicks last night, because televiewing was way down. Flashforward has dropped below the million mark, which makes a move to 7TWO all the more likely before April 29. Talking of the digitals, 7TWO and GO made their first appearance on Foxtel this morning, making them available to a million more Australians. This column will check how that affected their audiences in tomorrow's ratings report.

COMMENTS

I was surprised that the 20/20 cricket didn't beat Idol (20/20 cricket attracted 1.5m+ on Wednesday nights last summer).
Was Samson and Delilah the movie showing in cinemas earlier this year or some telemovie ripoff?

Tribal Mind replies: It was the same movie that made $3 million at the box office.

  • by arthur on November 23, 2009 at 10:42 AM

Is it just me or does Marcia look like she's in pain in that photo and Kyle's causing it somewhere out of shot?
'Aus Idol' certainly was Craptacular last night judging from several glimspes. Marcia squeezed into black lycra with many unneccessary zips. That tiny awful girl who badmouthed everyone involved. All those ...people...not singing well. Buble and them murdering 'Feeling Good'. Pointy shoes. Yawn. But I think they'll blame the weather for the shit ratings and bring it back next year in the hope that this year was just a blip.
I spent the afternoon lying on the floor and rewatching several episode of Season 3 of 'MadMen' after which 'Samson and Delilah' came on and I liked it although somehow I don't think those kids are gonna be doing an ad for Tourism Australia any time soon like Brandon Walters or appearing on 'Oprah' like HughJ/Nickers.
Are they going to have some sort of notice in the Newspaper when the Non Ratings Period starts? It will be difficult to tell the difference otherwise.
Interesting article about John Safran in 'Good Weekend' on Saturday.

Tribal Mind replies: This is your notice: the non ratings period starts on Sunday November 28. Strangely, Ten has scheduled a new episode of Glee for Sunday night

  • by darren on November 23, 2009 at 11:17 AM

Idol finale rather dismal ratings. Have Ten said whether it will be back next year?
Also noticed that Nine aren't showing ER this week either. They have the ARIA awards instead. I knew I had no hope of seeing a full season. At least they could stick it on Go and give us poor viewers a break. Too much to ask I suppose.

  • by em on November 23, 2009 at 11:52 AM

em, Andrew G did say at the end of the finale that Idol would be back next year. i'm taking that with a grain of salt though - especially after those ratings. It was, honest to god, excruciating television. There was the absolute worst bit when Mika was performing - it looked like a random girl was heckling from the audience, then it turned out that the Brent Street kids had been placed at the front of the mosh pit to do choreographed dancing to his next song. So, so, so embarrassingly painful. One of those moments that you just can't believe is actually real and sincere - seems like something Mr G from Summer Heights High would do.

  • by Beckala on November 23, 2009 at 01:14 PM

Aw man! Missed out on a critically acclaimed 2009 movie (Samson & Delilah) as no-one told me!
Will wait for the repeat then.

Tribal Mind remarks: So the fact that it was in all the program guides was not enough? You feel that the ABC should phone every taxpayer and let them know personally whenever a significant movie is about to be shown?

  • by arthur on November 23, 2009 at 01:42 PM

TM
Maybe arthur should also read this blog more often, as I am sure that Samson and Deliilah were mentioned more than just once last week.
Didn't miss anything by not watching AI.... hm Artificial Intelligence? NAh, That WOULD be an insult.... but can't recall what I did watch, cause was suffering from a serious desire to cool down other than the end of the Darwin Series. Not bad and more detailed than I can recall from my days of school... or yore if you so desire.
Oh yes.... TBYG.... was it just me or was it trying too hard... and that young 'un.. thanks for showing us all just how intelligent you are.
NOT!!

  • by Furlozza on November 23, 2009 at 03:08 PM

arthur....both darren & I made the specific point on Friday that Samson & Delilah was on & it had to be watched. It was also heavily advertised during the week on the ABC. I was very much into the difficult life that the 2 young actors were in but I was also starting to shut my eyes a couple of times, but when that car come into the picture boy did that wake me up!!! I'm glad to have watched it & it does deserve the accolades as it was showing many challenging issues, but would I recommend it to others as a "must see" not real sure. I prefer lots of dialogue & that was something it was really light on. But having said that there was a lot of communication going on you just had to watch for it.

Tribal Mind adds: Do you want to get on the phone to Arthur and let him know that a doco called "Making Samson & Delilah" will be on ABC1 at 9.35pm on Thursday November 26?

  • by PJ453 on November 23, 2009 at 03:34 PM

I unfortunately was caught in an Idol zone last night dining with parent - my brother in law likes the show - although given his comments maybe not - truly awful singing - hardly anyone could hit a note. Stan was best of the lot.
TM you asked what people thought of New Moon (TTSNM). I went Saturday - avoiding the heat. Have read books and saw first movie - truly no great brain strain in viewing - it was what I expected - only thing I would gripe about was the audience I shared with included about 20 or so teenagers (around 13ish) boys and girls - who forgot they were not the only people in the cinema - chatting, giggling, mobile phone went off at one point - even some of their own group were shushing them. It would have been better if they stayed in their own lounge room.
Sunday I saw A Christmas Carol in 3D - TMers who have kids under age 10 - don't take them - very very dark - one small person burst into tears and stated to her parent that she did not like the movie and wanted to go home. Not so keen on this type of animation, but will say I felt was was very close to the Charles Dickens version of the tale - dark and scary.
Only thing I will say is we saw previews for Avatar in 3D which looked spectacular and even better Alice in Wonderland in 3D (Tim Burton version) with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter - I can't wait!!

  • by Cathy on November 23, 2009 at 04:23 PM

I knew Samson & Delilah was on, but after a weekend of seven-year-old birthday parties (Mr Bear's friends are all born in Nov/Dec!) and that *heat* yesterday, Bones & Castle was definitely my choice of viewing pleasure.
Loved the opening of the second ep of Castle. I'd heard they might be doing it, but I didn't believe it.
For those of you who didn't watch it: Richard Castle is trying out his costume for his annual Halloween party. And it's an exact replica of his Captain Tightpants outfit from Firefly. Cue some amusing banter with his daughter ("didn't you wear that five years ago?"), and it was a delightful opening.
Not nearly as meaningful as S&D, I'm sure, but hey, it was effing HOT and my brain was toasted.

  • by tqd on November 23, 2009 at 06:53 PM

Hmm I check the blog daily, must have skimmed over the comments. That teaches me to read the comments more closely.
Had I known that Stan would win Idol (imo he was way worse than Hayley), I wouldn't have recorded one minute of it and recorded Samson & Delilah instead (I'm a cricket fan so would have seen the 20/20 live as I did).

  • by arthur on November 23, 2009 at 07:49 PM

Anyone got an opinion on 'RannGate'? I think Seven should be ashamed of themselves and pull their head in and that they should have the sense to judge whether a story is really in the Public Interest and when it's just crappy exploitative Jernalism designed to ruin people's lives for the sake of a ratings boost and have the moral fiber to say no and take some responsiblity. I thought Mark Riley was better than that.
On a personal note, how does one deal with a Workplace Psychopath? I believe murder is still illegal?
Not a good day.

  • by darren on November 24, 2009 at 08:41 AM

tdq I loved that part of Castle too. Is it really five years since they cancelled it??? I'm still not over it. It looked pretty much like his exact Captain TightPants costume too. (Maybe we'll get a Captain Hammer reference if we're lucky!!)

  • by 2paw on November 24, 2009 at 09:06 AM

darren, Fiber? Fiber??? I caught bits of 7's report on Sunday night - utter trash. I doubt I could care less who Rann may or may not have had sex with.
arthur, don't bother with S & D. I surfed over to watch it several times and eventually thought about doing a bit of painting to watch it dry for some excitement. Call me shallow but I like a bit of action. Oh, and dialogue is good as well. Thought the speakers on TV had carked it at first.
Watched bits of Idol. Why do all songs these days sound the same? Ricki-Lee = retina burn. Wes Carr = stomach churning tryhard. Michael Buble = desperate for either publicity or money. I think I know what happened to James Mathieson - Andrew G ate him. And who is Mika?

  • by Shoopie on November 24, 2009 at 09:57 AM

IMPORTANT NEWS FOR DARCY LOVERS: The ABC Shop website has E-Cards that one can send to friends, there's a choice between Heathcliff, Lost in Austen Darcy, and Best Darcy Of All, Colin Firth. I can't post the linky 'cos it's too complicated. But I suggest that he'll be the most popular!

  • by Bereft Skerrick on November 24, 2009 at 10:02 AM

I saw New Moon - quite liked it. I lucked out - went to a 12pm screening on Sunday at La Premiere (costs more, but was hoping the cost would be too much for the teens) so I had a good and respectful audience - specifically chose the session to avoid the screaming teens, as that is what I spend my life surrounded by!! Teenagers just have no idea how to watch a movie these days - any time I show something in class, I have to give a five minute reminder lecture on proper viewing etiquette, which they still forget about anyway. Anyway, New Moon - I enjoyed it. There were a few clunky moments, which for me were mainly caused by Taylor Lautner (Jacob) - I think he is just a bit young to be saying lines like "You don't want to get me angry" with any real passion. On the other hand, there were some very funny little one liners in it - which confirms my belief that the script writer is much better than Ms Meyer - has the much needed wit that the books just don't have - Meyer enjoys dwelling in the misery, the script writer (I think her name is Rosenberg?) likes to create these subtle comedic moments with the supporting characters which are very fun. But on the whole, was happy with it - but can understand how some are ready to hate it either because they are purely over it - seems like its the next big trend, to be anti-Twilight - just ask Miley Cyrus (again, I'm a school teacher, I have to hear this kind of crap all day!). Or there would be those that have just built it up SO much in their mind - especially since there have been publicity stills and clips out for something like 6 months - that it could never possibly live up to their expectations. I'm looking forward to the 3rd one - David Slade, along with being a good director, is an amazing photographer, so I think the third will be a beautiful looking film.

As for tv - sorry, can't comment too much, back in Groundhog Day (read: School Certificate marking) again until at least Wednesday. Caught the end of GNW and enjoyed the spray aimed at Vile. Recorded Hamish and Andy to watch for another day. Oh how I miss tv!!!

  • by Beckala on November 24, 2009 at 10:56 AM

Yes tqd, that reference to Firefly on the last episode of Castle, was a crack up. It reminded me so much of Moonlighting again, when they slipped in so many real life references about the actors into the storylines. Here's the dialogue for those that missed it.
Alexis: What exactly are you supposed to be?
Castle: Space cowboy.
Alexis: Okay, a) there are no cows in space, and b) didn't you wear that like five years ago?
Castle: So?
Alexis: So, don’t you think you should move on?
Castle: I like it.

  • by J Bar on November 24, 2009 at 10:59 AM

Shoopie: methinks that Mika is just a poor Freddie Mercury impersonator wannabe. He is a bad man and must be made to stop.
As for the Bratz Doll wannabe Shrieky-Lee with her hideous persona and hideous songs and just hideous everything. She's desperate enough to be flaunting herself in one of those ghastly "ooh look at me! I'm empowered so I'm going to pose wearing bondage gear in one of those wanky mens magazines that tend to be kept in bathrooms" photoshoots. So retina burn indeed.

  • by Bereft Skerrick on November 24, 2009 at 11:20 AM

Haven't see the new Twillight yet but will probably go with my daughter eventually when the hysteria dies down. Not really interested but I did read the books. Certainly not what I would call literature. All the teen hype is very annoying and I can't get it at all. The acting was bad enough in the first film. Kristen Stewart has no expression other than sullen and Rob Pattison isn't much better. I still think the whole thing could have been better cast.
Did go to see 2012 on Sun arvo to escape the heat with my brother who wanted to see it. Typical leave the brain at the door disaster flick. But ok for what it was. No story and lots of things blowing up. Easy for my overheated brain to handle.
Did see previews of Avatar. Now that looked amazing and much more interesting than TTSNM. Can't wait. I wonder if Avatar will do better? Be interesting to see how it goes , definitely one for all us sci-fi fans.

  • by em on November 24, 2009 at 11:36 AM

Another great line from the same Castle episode - when coming across the dead "vampire" in the cemetery - Castle - Buffy came to New York?
Brilliant!
Speaking of fave lines - read elsewhere of an exchange on Vampire Diaires between Damon (evil brother) and Stefan - we are meant to be together, we could travel the world, we could try out for the Amazing Race.

Thanks for the tip about 7TWO & GO! going on Foxtel today. We live on the Central Coast and get Foxtel by dish. 7TWO has been added (channel 127) but no sign of GO! or 10's ONE. Maybe another day...

  • by d@gp on November 24, 2009 at 01:23 PM

I had heard so much about Samson and Delilah and looked forward to seeing it but just found it to be slow and depressing. Why do so many Australian films have to be so slow and depressing these days?

  • by Levendis on November 24, 2009 at 01:32 PM

Yeah I second that comment about slow and depressing Australian films like 'Samson and Delilah'. Why can't something blow up or I know, why can't we only have films about Australian Aborigines where they fight their way out of all that misery and poverty and get adopted by some nice white people?
That film made me think about sad stuff for several days after. Not good enough if I'm expected to continue with my head in the sand and only thinking about buying a new tellie or what dvd to get next.
What the ABC really should be funding is films that show the true state of Aborigines. You know, with noble savages reclining under coolibah trees by a picturesque billabong and talking about how good everything's got since the whitefellas came along.
That's what this country needs.

  • by darren on November 24, 2009 at 03:08 PM

Allan Shore Watch Update... Foxtel's 111 screens the final episode of season 3 tonight, in which Lindsay gets knifed by the killer nun. This would mean only another 4 seasons to be screened 'til James Spader's Allan Shore character arrives. Unfortunately, 111 is dropping the series come Dec 17 - just 17 eps into season 4.
Makes me wonder how many times they'll replay eps already shown before picking up the series again. Sometimes I wonder why the hell we bother with Foxtel, the viewing alternative that REPEATS on you...

  • by d&gp on November 24, 2009 at 05:49 PM

First saw 'Samson and Delilah' on the aeroplane a few months ago, and it was such a delicate piece - but in the same veins as great films as 'No Country For Old Men', it's not a film I'd prioritise to watch again and again. Caught the ending again the other day and still looks like a beauty.
We get Dr Who in two weeks (Sun 6) - which is pretty quick. Saw the preview of the final eps from Children in Need (so much more entertaining that stuff we have) and am highly anticipating it.

  • by Kym on November 24, 2009 at 11:47 PM

Have d/l'ed Waters of Mars but just haven't had time to watch as yet, this weekend is out as I'll be making a pilgrimage up to Manly to the Ben & Jerry's shop. One of my dreams has come true and their Choc Chip Cookie Dough ice cream has reached our shores! Pity I'm lactose intolerant :P
BTW Ch Shirl (10 for the uninitiated) please don't advertise Lie To Me as being a "Season Finale" as we all well it's a Ratings Season finale, then at the end of the show say it's changing timeslot.

  • by Bereft Skerrick on November 25, 2009 at 06:54 AM

Enjoyed Celebrity Masterchef last night. Looking forward to see who can win tonight, the rock star, the swimmer or the beauty queen. I thought they all did amazingly well to even attempt the Everest of deserts the evil "Croquembouche". Felt for Alex who kept burning himself and had to laugh with the judges when he presented his mess. But good on him for trying. I can't imagine even trying to make something like that.
I think either Kirk or Rachael will win. I wonder how it will rate tonight? I predict higher than last night.
As for PTTR I was probably the only person who didn't watch. I have never really gotten into the show. It's never appealed to me.

  • by em on November 25, 2009 at 09:51 AM

Are you sure about those Private Practice ratings? >1m for a 2hr double episode from 9.30pm to 11.30pm?! No wonder why Seven smashed it Tues nite...

Tribal Mind replies: That was the figure for the first hour.

  • by arthur on November 25, 2009 at 10:12 AM

Not sure whether to laugh or cry, darren. Your cynicism and sarcasm is appreciated.
However, I wasn't trying to say that we shouldn't be making films that prick our social conscience or depict the gritty nature of the problems in our society. I'm in no way suggesting that we should sweep issues under the rug or only make movies that make us feel good. It's just that if you've seen so many Australian films like Samson & Delilah, Little Fish, Candy and Somersault which all paint a very depressing and dark picture of Australia, you start thinking that the only future possible is a bleak one.
What's wrong with wanting to see Australian movies that are entertaining and fun, as well as these critically acclaimed pieces? We used to make them. The Brits and Americans still do. Can't we make some of them too?

  • by Levendis on November 25, 2009 at 11:44 AM

Levendis, thanks for your measured response to a stupid post by me yesterday. Came in today and reread it and thought what a jerk. I'm always being told to lighten up. Either that or "Can't you take anything seriously?". I've lately become and Angry Young Man, although not so young anymore. Or man. (And seeing Rudd on National Television yesterday call an MP "Macca" didn't help the blood pressure. The Sunrisification of the nation begins).......
It just annoys me that problems like those highlighted in 'Samson and Delilah' are generally ignored and that film could've, in another Universe, have kickstarted some sort of response to the issues but it's not been given any real credit aside fron Critical Acclaim (which means ooooh hoighty toighty to the Majority of Australians), and triggered this debate about why Aussie films are "depressing and sad" etc. To me, films accurately reflect the soul of the community and we'd be better served by asking what is it about Australia that needs to be fixed? The happy upbuilding type of film would follow as a natural progression of an improved society. We get what we ask for.
Also, Aussie films seem to be either serious and depressing or starring Magda Szubanski and a talking pig, and nothing in between.

  • by darren on November 25, 2009 at 01:31 PM

I was just wondering how the view is from up there on your horse Darren? Ah well, guess I can't agree with your humour ALL the time.

Methinks Levendis makes a valid point, even more so once he had to justify him(her) self.

  • by Ozshark on November 25, 2009 at 02:42 PM

Sheesh! Now I'm feeling a little vertigo...
Nice measured response to Levandis' measured response....

  • by Ozshark on November 25, 2009 at 10:28 PM

ENOUGH with the measuredness. Where's Don Collins when we need him!?!

  • by Wendell on November 26, 2009 at 08:44 AM

Wendell, he was on Nein's 50 to 1 excruciating ways to spend a couple of hours the other night. Oh wait, that was Bill Collins. Wasn't Don Collins on Homicide? I give up, I'm off to google.

  • by Shoopie on November 26, 2009 at 10:21 AM

Tiffani was great as was Tim DeKay, not so sure about Matt Bomer, but Marsha Thomason's accent was terrible. I see she was only in the pilot. This looks like an OK show thus far. Also noticed Badger from Firefly was the villain.

  • by 2paw on November 26, 2009 at 10:26 AM

Thanks Darren. I appreciate your measured response to my measured response. You often give me a laugh and mostly agree with your observations and commentary. I don't always agree, but having different opinions is what makes the world a lot more interesting. Right?
I can relate to what you say about feeling like an 'Angry Young Man', as I sometimes feel that way too. I was feeling a bit like that yesterday while walking to work, along three blocks of George Street. I saw two homeless people sleeping in doorways, was approached by two others begging for money and saw another bloke passed out after being sick all over the steps of a convenience store. None of the office workers passing by, took much notice of any of this or offered any help. Rather a bleak picture of city life in Sydney 2009. Today, I walked down the same stretch and saw none of those people but did notice a smartly dressed man in a suit pushing a pram and holding a toddlers hand, as he dropped the kids off at a child care centre. A stark contrast to the bleak picture one day earlier and suddenly a brighter view of city life. Were the problems all solved overnight? No. Just a case of out of sight, out of mind but sometimes it's hard to see the brightness in the world when you're only surrounded by the bleak.
We seem to make a wider variety of programs for television. You have everything from East West 101 which explores many social issues in a serious and often depressing way but at the other extreme you have something like 'Packed to the Rafters' which can also explore social issues but is also fun and entertaining. We need to have both. Aussies can do the fun and entertaining stuff well with television series and people want to watch them. Why can't they seem to do it that often with movies?

Enjoyed CMC last night. Didn't expect Eamon to win but he worked hard so he deserved it. Didn't see White Collar after it as my bed beckoned but I hear it wasn't too bad.
On another note the boys from Supernatural are back next week. One of my favorite eye candy programs! Us girls have to have something to look at.
And a Happy 40th Birthday to the Muppets. Check out the new clip on YouTube for the gang doing Bohemian Rhapsody. Not sure if Queen would be flattered or horrified. But cute anyway and brought a smile to the dial!

I used to live in the same Sydney suburb as Bill Collins. He used to have a lift in his house, which was a pretty fantastic thing in the 80's.
What's with Ch 7 repeating Family Guy episodes shown only a couple of weeks ago?
Anyone else bother to watch Celeb Masterchef finale? The only episode I've watched all season. Glad Dick Dastardly didn't win. That's pretty crap ratings for a Wednesday.

Tribal Mind replies: Not so crap when you think it was the average over two hours

Google won't help you Shoopie. Don Collins was the spelling-challenged troll from a month ago or so who loved the blackface skit on Hey Hey so much he wanted all Australian tv shows performed in blackface. Not sure how Ernie Dingo would go, although Don would probably have him thrown off the air because nobody likes an uppity coloured person with ideas above his station.

  • by Wendell on November 26, 2009 at 11:11 AM

Muppets! Bohemian Rhapsody! Mama mama mama mama mama mama mama!!!
Animal is one of my all time role models.

  • by Bereft Skerrick on November 26, 2009 at 02:25 PM

Re Muppets I prefer Fozzie's "Wokka Wokka Wokka".
Isn't Don Collins also the name of an alcoholic beverage? And I think I'd better not point out the Dictionary of the same (sur)name. Ironic.
Finished rewatching the 2nd season of 'MadMen' last night and saw a little tear in Pete Campbell's eye when Peggy told him about the baby. Hadn't noticed that before. That series is bewitching. But we have to wait until February for SBS to show the 3rd season that concluded several weeks ago in the U.S. and then another 6 months for the DVD I assume. Too too long.

  • by darren on November 26, 2009 at 02:51 PM

Tom Collins, maybe Darren?? Gin, sugar syrup, soda and lemon.

  • by 2paw on November 26, 2009 at 04:46 PM

Darren, SBS has only shown Season 1 of Mad Men so far. Luckily, your spoiler isn't really a spoiler because we know about the termination from the last ep of Season 1.

Tribal Mind wonders: Termination? I don't think you have seen season 2.

  • by Wendell on November 26, 2009 at 04:50 PM

Ah, that's right TM - she was in labour. You're correct, I have not seen season 2. Waiting for SBS. Also still waiting for more Big Love, for that matter.

How very intellectual this blog has become.
But less than 5% of the contributors to TV Tonight.com.
Some contributions are as long as a Dickens novel.
Others are sweetly short.
"The short statement has much more impact because of its brevity".
I thing John Collins said that. Or maybe he didn't.
However, you are correct. I'm off to bed.

Tribal Mind asks: So would you be happier if I limited all entries to max 50 words?

  • by festering on November 26, 2009 at 09:23 PM

Sorry, Wendell. I don't follow TV so much anymore but I thought Season 2 had already been and gone. Perhaps I shouldn't tell you about the sex change storyline in episode 4. It's not what you'd imagine.
Festering: interesting but you do go on a bit. Less is more.

  • by darren on November 27, 2009 at 05:48 AM

All I know about Mr Collins is that in Lost in Austen he took great delight in scratching his nether regions sneakily via his hand in his pocket, and then sniffing said hand.
And surely we wasn't as intellectual week when were were all bitching and moaning about Tim Tams.
Curses, I've gone over 50 words. Shoot me. And shoot the guy who cancelled Polly Waffles.

  • by Bereft Skerrick on November 27, 2009 at 09:31 AM

So TM, what "highlights" can we look forward to during the Silly Season? Any gems twinkling in the mounds of excrement?

Tribal Mind replies: Gloved research is under way.

  • by Wendell on November 27, 2009 at 09:56 AM

Those ARIA ratings on Nine were a lot lower than previous years on Ten. Whose bright idea was it to hold an awards show on a Thursday?

  • by J Bar on November 27, 2009 at 09:58 AM

The making of Samson & Delilah was very entertaining. That they completed the movie without having to rewrite a new storyline because they took "Samson" behind a shed & hit him over the head with a shovel showed how much tolerance the makers had. The further the filming went the bigger the dickhead he became. Having said that what they got out of young novice "actors" was quite uplifting.
Surviving Mumbai was chilling in its re-enactments, use of phone records & especially the interviews with survivors, something I'd never want to go through or any of my family.
99 words....gee I hope that's not tooooo many. Darn now thats 111

  • by PJ453 on November 27, 2009 at 10:30 AM

Ah, the Silly Season! How I love it! Repeats, crap shows and Cricket. Fantastic.
Thank goodness for Foxtel and JB Hi Fi.
Too many words?

Tribal Mind replies: Just enough.

  • by em on November 27, 2009 at 11:18 AM

Festering does not
Enjoy lengthy diatribes
Is haiku the answer?

  • by Wendell on November 27, 2009 at 04:13 PM

There was a young blogger named Festering
Who found our diatribes quite pestering
They said we're intellectual
Which seems quite ineffectual
So lets continue with the jestering.

Tribal Mind remarks: Excellent. Anyone want to try a young blogger named Skerrick? Should I require that all comments be in limerick form now on? No, too short. Lets say sonnet form.

  • by Bereft Skerrick on November 28, 2009 at 09:44 AM

There was a young blogger called Skerrick
Who created a quite excellent limerick
Now we all have to sonnet
'cos Festering had a bee in his bonnet
But it really doesn't matter a skerrick.

  • by J Bar on November 28, 2009 at 11:50 AM

I approve whole heartedly.
Especially TM's comment to my last response.
Well researched!!!

  • by festering on November 28, 2009 at 09:40 PM

Good Game is shown on ABC1 on late Fridays nights, it isn't shown on ABC2 on Fridays.

Tribal Mind replies: But OzTAM no longer tells us that.

  • by cpandilo on November 29, 2009 at 08:39 AM

Quote of the Week must surely go to Joanne Lumley's Search for the Northern Lights... "I must have some Viking blood in me"...

  • by I'm Sure She Had... on November 29, 2009 at 09:08 PM

Wow I finally have something to put on my tombstone :)

  • by Bereft Skerrick on November 29, 2009 at 09:43 PM

Bit late ("Monorail!!!!"), but I can't resist:
There is a young lady, Bereft,
whose humour comes in from the left.
What grieves her's unsaid -
she makes jokes instead,
and PC thugs can go and get effed.
