The ratings race, updated 10 am Sunday
Channel Nine started the week with a massive advantage from the Logies and the Underbelly finale and managed to fritter most of it away by Saturday. In the end, Nine averaged 27.9 per cent of the prime time audience, while Seven got 27.7, Ten 22.5, ABC 16.7, SBS 5.13. Ten is currently gleeful that Masterchef is performing far better than The Biggest Loser and Big Brother. Seven is gleeful that Underbelly is over.
This was Pay TV's account of itself: "For the sixth week in a row, and for the 14th week in 2009, Subscription TV was the number one source of television across all homes. STV channels accounted for 22.0% of all metropolitan viewing between 6am and midnight, was 20.8% of all regional viewing and 57.4% of all viewing in subscription TV homes in week 18, 2009.

Live: Rugby League: Toyota Cup received its highest audience for the year with 99,000 viewers (all on FOX Sports).
"Australia's Next Top Model continued its great run with 202,000 viewers for Tuesday night's broadcast on FOX8 and 280,000 on the night when the Plus 2 hours audiences are included. The ratings race, updated 10 am Monday
Despite lame jokes, clunky direction, cliched script and inarticulate speeches, the Logies ceremony enabled Channel Nine to hold 38.2 per cent of the prime time audience last night. Go to The TV We Loved to see how this year's audience compares with past Logie records.
Seven got 24.4 per cent of the audience, thanks only to its news; Ten got 21.7, thanks to Merlin, which won its timeslot; the ABC slumped to a miserable 11.7 (suggesting a need to move Midsomer Murders to Sunday, in the absence of new Poirots or Dr Whos); and SBS slumped to 4.0.

No that wasn't the worst Logies I've ever seen. As soon as I heard Gretel Killeen was hosting I made sure the TV's were off.
Spent the day working with ABC2 on in the background yesterday.
What a breath of fresh air that channel is.
Caught a bit of the Swans match on channel 7. THat could not possibly have been any more butchered nor delayed than it was. Utterly appalling.
If only that Logies programme could be nominated for a Bogie itself. Caught bits and pieces, and mainly cringed, but agree with Michael Idato, would we have it any other way? The Myles Barlow bit was a fairly good review.
How did Borat go last night? Caught it for the first time and had some good laughs.
Merlin was quite interesting, probably watch it again this week. It's somewhat more watchable than Robin Hood, or maybe that's because they haven't introduced annoying characters yet.
Yay for Dr Who: Planet of the Dead airing 31/5, 7.30pm!
Lastly, just want to comment on the Cary Grant season. I am obsessed with him at the moment, and couldn't thank ABC2 enough for airing a few classics. Holding out for The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer in particular. Hoodoo? You do.
Televisions night of nights, beaten by the, who wore what and the evening news. I guess that just about sums up the current state of the local industry. We had better act fast if we want to save it.
Slept through the Logies, just couldn't bring unwell self to suffer through Gretski. I defer to the judgement of my blog colleagues to tell me I made the right choice. Am not surprised that the "who wore what monstrosity" rated better than the ceremony itself.
Watched the first bit of the Logies. Who's brilliant idea was it to get Gretel to host? She looked bloody awful with that short haircut for a start then whoever her writer was should be taken out the back. Her jokes were lame and the whole thing was just an embarrasment to watch. I turned off after some actor I never heard of from Home and Away won an award.
And really even the red carpet show was awful. Sure some of the girls looked nice in their pretty frocks but the commentary was below par. All in all a crap show and I gave up and went to bed with a good book instead.
As for Merlin on Ten. I didn't really like it, seemed to be aimed at kids I think. The whole story was stupid. I am a huge fan of Camelot/Merlin/Arthur stories but the writers of this show really took liberties. A Black Guinevere that was Morgana's maid? Merlin and Arthur the same age? And so on and so on. Too many things that were just not consistent with the old stories and it just annoyed me no end. I know it's supposed to be a new re working of an old story but that doesn't mean it's better.
I think I'll leave it for the kids out there and not bother to watch again. Quite disappointing really.
em, hate to be the one to tell you, Gretel was responsible for all of her own writing. That's why they hired her, because she's supposedly a "writer" and a "comedian" - and I use the quotation marks quite deliberately there.
Was it just me, or did that Lyndsey whatever her name who co-hosted the red carpet just have no idea how to use a microphone? Every time she asked a question, she'd be half way through the question and then pass the microphone over to the other person, meaning you had no idea what was actually being asked. Who was she and why was she there? And also, apparently in the pre-show, I've heard people saying that there was a bit of a mishap with Shelley Craft's dress - apparently she accidentally showed a little too much flesh... I didn't see it so I can't say whether or not it's true, but it was all the talk on the radio this morning.
Avoided the Logies like the H1N1 last night although had a few short peeks during ads from 'Merlin' (which was better than I thought it'd be) and 'MasterChef' (which I'm surprised to find I still quite like). Has there ever been a Logies that wasn't the worst one you've ever seen?
On the positive side, Nine now has plenty of material for a new show: '20 to 1 - Most ExcrutiatingTelevision Moments'. And suddenly the 'Biggest Loser' finale looks polished and subtle.
51 years of 'Television's Night of Nights' for me were summed up with 'The Red Rooster Red Carpet'. Not Loreal. Not Chanel. Not Armani. Red Rooster. Hilarious.
On another note, Ten's promotion of the 'Simpsons' episode where Marge kisses another (cartoon) woman this week is strange don't you think? I thought at first that they were censoring it to tittilate but then later in the night there was no censoring so I can only conclude it's because you can't show two cartoon women kissing before a certain hour (won't someone think of the children?). Mind you, in the episode of 'The Simpsons' that was showing between ads at the time, about ten cartoon people were decapitated and Principal Skinner was disembowled and Moe was tortured to death but cartoon women kissing? Too racy. I don't get it
Tribal Mind remarks: How are we supposed to pronounce H1N1? Something like hynie?.
Couldn't be bothered with The Logies last night. Watched the excellent ABC show on India then watched 3 solid hours to finish Series 1 of The Wire. It's been a long time since watching tv that we have both said..."ok just one more episode", like some sort of addiction. It has to be one of the best shows ever. It meant that we now move onto Series 2, looks like less "out of home entertainment" coming up!!
Tribal Mind remarks: I've just done the same with all seven seasons of The West Wing, but I'm holding off seeing the final episode because I can't bear to say goodbye. Clearly I'd better start The Wire immediately.
Only caught the last bit of the logies, but did I see correctly, was Gretel interviewing people when they were in the toilet! Big Brother might have cameras there but I really think we do not need that.
Em re Merlin being targeted at kids, well it was 6.30pm on a Sunday night. It sounds like the ideal program for that time slot. I did not watch it, but my 11 year old wants to make sure he watches it every week.
H1N1 is pronounced Aitch wun Enn wun. It's what they're calling the Swine flu these days. Although 'hynie' sounds pretty good too.
Tribal Mind replies; Much as I want to save the reputation of pork, I don't think aitch wun en wun will take off. R2D2 would be better.
The what?, Logies, gee, I missed it again this year, that now makes it 51 times in a row that I have somehow missed out on seeing the event of the year. Why wasn't I told? Why is my memory so cruel that the highest rating show for the week somehow eluded my TV screen yet again. That, after upgrading to a nice new big screen a few months ago to make sure I could see it in the best format.
I guess there is always next year.
God knows what I was thinking but I watched as much as I could bare of the Logies (about an hour) before returning to my DVD of Mad Man. Awful awful awful (the Logies that is, not MM).
How is it possible that the Logies can get worse with each passing year, no matter who hosts? So embarrassing, so unfunny.
Red Rooster Red Carpet? Now I've (not) seen everything! I'm surprised that the baubles on starlets ears aren't neon advertisements for weight loss products or self tanners. BTW that Lindsey chick was an MTV host in the US. I think her show got axed.
Anyhow Mr Skerrick kindly advises me that he taped both Merlin AND The Logies, so shall submit my critque at a later stage.
I only caught the end of Logies, where it took me a good 15 seconds to recognise Gretel. I recognise the face... I recognise the voice ... WHAT IS WITH THAT HAIR. I thought it was Claudia Karvan for a second. BUT, is part of the criticism a re-take of the Gretel bashing that was so in vogue a couple of years ago. She was hated in her last year at BB, then on came Kyle and Jackie-O and it was bring back Gretel. Anyway, I would like to see Jessica Rowe host next year so we can re-hate her all over again.
Oh go TM you can do it.......we won't think less of you, just one more episode. Close one story & open a new one. But if your'e going to start The Wire set aside 13 solid hours, none of this 48 minute wimpish stuff, but it is really worth it.
While this year's Logies wasn't good, I don't think it was "the worst". I hate that some people are blaming the whole thing on Gretel - the idiotic audience, who didn't respond to ANYTHING, the awkward presenters, some undeserving winners, and the whole cheap look of the show were much worse that Gretski's admittedly flat material. Apparently nobody could even hear Gretel when she was talking, which is hardly her fault. Still, Anh Do as God, Margaret and David's sketch, and Shaun Micallef were very funny.
The Logies was the perfect example of how the supposedly intelligent and talented people of today are actually incapable and undeserving dweebs, droobs and sychophantic brown-nosers with half a brain cell to rub between them.
Gretel was to adlib and humour, what the black plague was to growing old in the Middle Ages. I caught enough of her inane attempts to get a bunch of supposed "bright young stars" who were patently afflicted with verbal constipation (for actors - these guys were a total disgrace!!), to engage in some sparkling reparte, to discover my own sense of humour developing pustules and lesions as a consequence.
I almost wished Ali was there to give her what he didn't give Bert. Come to think of it; he could have given the whole audience the same... apart from Annie Lennox, whose solo performance - while not her absolute best, was better at it's worst moments than any of the rest of the show - or the bits that I could stomach to watch before the dry retching forced a relieving change of channel.
Honestly; something needs to be done about the Logies Award ceremony or for the sake of National pride (not that there'll be much left after this latest Logies installment...) put the thing out of it's misery.
On the "Aussie cringeworthiness" scale, the 51st Logies Award Ceremony broadcast may have been designed to prove "we're Global"; but, it must surely outshine any of the "Dad and Dave" style antipodean innocence of former generations, or the insular paternalism harboured by inbred and remote communities or outback rednecks...
If the Chinese ever needed proof that we could never be a threat to them - Sunday night's Logies presentation was the perfect evidence.
TM, "800 million people afflicted with R2D2" sounds plausible. Starts with the sniffles then progresses to incomprehensible whistles and farts.
Re 'Gretel Goes to the Logies', I think as Tim said, it's possibly Gretel-bashing season again. You did get the sense that everyone was relishing her pain. Hard crowd. I've gotten a bit philosophical about the Logies. Logies = embarrassment. I don't expect anything more. Looking forward to the 'Depend Adult Undergarment Award for Excellence in Acting and Stuff (for when you just can't hold it in any longer)' next year.
PJ453, glad to hear you're enjoying 'The Wire'. It's perfection. I'm getting into 'In Treatment' (partly on TM's recommendation) and am not disappointed. Trying to ration the episodes. Hanging out for Season 5 of 'The Wire' in August (so I've heard).
TM - do you have the ratings for CSI NY in Sydney and Brisbane last night?
Tribal Mind replies: Probably. Be patient.
Bugger the Logies, when are we getting Eurovision??
By the comments on their Tweets, why don't Wil Anderson or The Chaser guys put up their hands to host next year's event? While I like both of their shows, I doubt even their acts would be able to sustain an awards show.
And I have to say Wil's bit was almost as painful to watch as Gretel's.
A ponderance: Have decided that Gretski hosting the Logies was a cruel joke on the part of the gibbons at Channel Nork. It was a win win situation for them. They'd get the ratings, and it was a dead cert that Gretski was going to crash and burn. Payback for her years of hosting Big Brother and taking ratings points away from Channel Nork. Perhaps next year they can get Vyle & Tacky Ho to host and similarly exterminate their careers?
Interesting, Bereft Skerrick, interesting.....but do you think the Programming Gibbons have the higher brain function necessary to plan for future possibilities? If so, my personal conspiracy theory (in their dreams) is: Get Gretel to host, she's a dazzling success, Nine buys the rights to Big Brother and re-instates Gretel as host, Nine is saved by the bogan factor, Nine becomes Australia's pre-emminent commercial channel once again, Nine takes over the country, then the universe (mwahahaha).
I've just realised the relevance of Red Rooster sponsering the Red Carpet: Thighs, Breasts, Wings, skin turned brown and crispy by a slow-turning rotiserie.....
I take it we wont see Gretel as host of the logies again then ..... what moron decided that the x host of a moronic reality tv series as bad as Big Brother decides to use her (lack of) talent to host something as big as the logies ?
Darren - "800 million people afflicted with R2D2 sounds plausible. Starts with the sniffles then progresses to incomprehensible whistles and farts".
You should definitely contact next years Logies host and volunteer to be their writer. Your one-liners are pure gold.
Ahah, Eurovision is on the 15th & 16th with the semi-finals, and the 17th with the finals.
Three whole nights of Eurovision. That may be too much for even a lover of tackarama like me.
Some one get Julia Zemiro a stylist! The poor woman clearly has no idea. She totally got the occasion wrong. I saw her at the races last year and she had it wrong there too - by memory she had black ankle stockings on...at the races! no. Surely she has an agent or manager who has taken her aside and suggested she enlist some fashion help.
As for Gretel - I feel for her. THat job is career suicide - especially as a woman.
And how serious was that Home and Away boy? My god, I thought I was at the Oscars for a moment.
OMG. Those ears! What was she thinking?! She kept THAT hairdo top secret?? LOL ......I'm sure I can hear the BeeGees singing "Tragedy". Make the Logies work or pension them off. TOO MUCH TINSEL AND FLUFF.
Not a bad debut for Talking etc etc. Some funny bits, but the speed of the show is a little too slow, and I don't think the format is suitable for a 7:30pm family friendly timeslot. Once the laughter of the audience was toned down there were some funny spots, but I think it's going to a Gen X whitewash every week.
Was that Lady Gaga at the Logies - so many people have told me she was there???
Tribal MInd replies: No, but there were ladies gagging.
Davo, if one-liners were all that was required of a Logies host then Gretel is amply qualified. She's an intelligent and funny woman. Seriously. And the more days that go by the more I'm feeling sorry for her. How do you amuse a ballroom full of half-sozzled yobbos mostly from Channel Nine and Seven who are waiting for you to stuff up? Probably she could've tried flashing her tits....And not cut her hair.
My contribution would be to start off with "Good evening Ladies and Germs...." and then say something about 'a conga-line of suck-holes'....
The funniest line all night (apart from "Okay let's cross back now to the Red Rooster Red Carpet and photograph some more women looking over their shoulders" and that Token Young Actor of Non-Caucasian Appearance from 'Home and Away' saying "Ummm, errrr, yeah (mumble), Ummmm, yeah") was Jason Coleman who, after holding his Logie over his head said "This is for all the dancers out there. Follow your hearts and one day this could be you, up here, living the dream!".....You can't write that stuff.
Eddie McGuire will be back next year with scripts by the guys from 'The Footy Show'.
'Talkin(g) (A)bout My Generation' needs more Shawn McCalliff and less awkward moments filled with the chirping of crickets. Is that the kid from 'The Nanny'?
darren: don't think that was the kid from "The Nanny" but be blowed if I can figure out what frickin accent he has. Is there a country called BloodyAnnoying?
Sure looks like the kid from The Nanny in Talkin...Generation. Definitely agree it needs more Micallef. I also reckon there was a new kind of laughter - wasn't canned, it was a mix of at gun-range forced and that same irksome voice laughing.
Who chooses the Simpsons episodes? It's uncanny that it resembles some segment from the news. Yesterday it was about the economy being in decline.
That reminds me, David Tennant's in Foyle's War this Saturday.
I watched the Shaun Micalef Talkin bout my generation last night but unlike Darren & Mrs Skerrick I found little to recommend it. Very clunky and awkward and although I like Shaun and Amanda Keller I felt it was too try hard - think I half giggled once. There was even a mistake with how many answers correct (Baby Boomers on celebrity jail timeline were given 3 points for 4 correct). Not going on my must see list.
By the way I note that Life has been cancelled in US and Harper's Island - the new show promoing on Shirl looks like it will be cancelled. US networks are beginning to announce the next season lineups.
Yes, Berfet Skerrick, it's also known as Brisbane (according to Wikipedia). Doesn't sound right does it? I was thinking Irish or Welsh or North Indian.
1.6 Million? Could it be that Micallef is a commercial success? Considering it was up against a tacked together documentary about a lion with "new" 30 year old footage, colour me surprised. I'm hoping that it's less clunky and awkward next time.
Just realised. Next week TBYG is up against Home Made (reality rehash of The Block) and The Federal Budget!
Any forum for Micallef is worth it, and I liked most of it. The problem will be the generations at home will only like their respective counterparts. Me (Generation X) will identify with the laconic, cool, slacker attitude of X, disrepect the BB's who fell arse backwards into million dollar properties and despise Gen Y for their poor work ethic and unplaced confidence / arrogance. Others will hate Gen X and tell them to stop complaining, grow up and get on with adult life... I like Amanda but Mr Gen Y was lame and his accent was a cross between gay and English. There is a lack of good shows on at 7:30, saving the 7:30 report, but people maybe up to almost 3 hours of news by then so it might do well. But this is Micallef and while he is hilarious, he is not popular with the bogans...
I am sure his (Micallef) Logies Hosting audience from the other year was his biggest audience ever!!. He was quite a successful host from memory (in the same vein as Denton)
Tribal Mind replies: You're right of course. Unfortunately my Blackberry won't let me change the headline. Correction will have to wait till I get back to the mothership computer tonight.
Isn't MasterChef great? Unlike the English original we Australians have a cooking show that doesn't bother to show actual cooking.
I think TBYG only rated so highly because last night had so little to offer and people wanted to take a look. Be interesting to see the how the figures go over the next few weeks.
I can't judge it cause I watched Pushing Daisies over on Foxtel. Love that show! Brilliantly written, clever and humorous. Pity it had such a short run.
I am glad to see Shawn Micallef [in the photo above] doing to himself that which I feel I would rather do to myself when ever I have the missfortune to encounter his "comedy" As a "comedian" he makes a great lawyer.
A Lion Called Christian scored almost 1.6 mill?!!
Must have been all those people who wondered whether this was the first opportunity to see footage of a Christian eating it's tormentors.
Sadly it appears wishes don't always come true...
there has been the odd good show on Foxtel,at least they showed the last series of Waking The Dead,if you wait for 9 you will be dead before they show it.
They have some good stuff coming up on UKTV also The Last Voices Of The Great War is bloody interesting to me.
Sine my girlfriends son got the downloading bug we are well supplied with TV series to watch, agree with the people who mentioned The Wire, bloody great show, sorry I think it and some Brit police show are damm good and watching Aussie Cop shows is just Yeech to me anyway.
Also caught up on a few movies, and some interesting Finnish war movies about the winter war and aftermath when the Germans went into Russia, like my overseas flicks.
The Logies, my god how painful, like having hemorrhoids, painful, they should have give up and called it a day when Denton did his one.
And that was the first ten minutes I switched off after that
The finale for Scrubs aired in USA yesterday and it was totally wonderful. I now hope they don't do another series (even though Bill Lawrence wants to). It's the perfect ending and one you must see when it airs in a few weeks on Ch 7
Why are people not watching 'MadMen'? Why???? People prefer repeated episodes of '20 to 1' and 'Two and a Half Men'? 'Grey's Anatomy'??? What is going on (besides what always goes on)?
In the televisual wasteland I am quite liking 'MasterChef' still, although the girl I thought had a chance of winning was the first eliminated so it looks like as good at picking a winner as I am at cooking. It's a bit of a shock having judges that are nice. And a host that can speak and smile at the same time. She can also walk and move most of her facial muscles. Pretty good.
TM, tell me to butt out if you like, but when can we expect to see you guest-starring? I read an article by Ruth Ritchie the other day where she, along with other journalists (didn't say who...) had been inviting over for a day of cookin' and I thought it sounded a bit like getting the critics on-side but I don't think they need to, it's getting fairly okay reviews and pretty good ratings....
Looks like another early night tonight because Seven can't programme a decent movie.
And by the way, Bereft Skerrick, sorry for calling you 'Berfet Skerrick' t'other day. Two little letters in the wrong order and it sounds like a bodily function or a layered dessert.....
Another great episode of MadMen but the figures seem really disappointing. Why would people watch a repeat of 20to1 instead?? The Media Watch show was interesting (recorded then watched after MM), but cutting 20yrs into 1 hour would have been hard, & hasn't John Laws aged well??
And as for 4 Corners next week, I can't understand why such a respected show would get down into the gutter for a story of football sexpose
I can't believe that Masterchef is doing that well. I still can't really get into it - it is growing on me, but it's not that guilty pleasure that Biggest Loser was.
Grey's Anatomy was a good ep last night, made even better (for me, anyway) with the use of a Powderfinger song. Really good end to the serial killer storyline - I think that was Grey's back to better form - and now the Izzie mystery becomes clear, so no more dead Denny following her around!
Bondi Rescue was ok too - thank god it was the finale, because I was beginning to think i'd better invest in Kleenex, I was going through so many! What can I say, i'm a sucker for a cute animal - but not even I was that desperate to watch the lion show...
darren: I'd prefer layered dessert. As long as it's dairy free.
In other news, seems that Mininova, it of the d/l'ing site fame, is going to be trialling removing illegal content. Which means most things available won't be anymore. Perhaps someone who knows more can fill me in?
Why are so many people watching Ghost Whisperer? It's a really, really stupid show that jumped the shark when her husband died and came back in someone else's body. Now I know that sounds like I watch it but I don't . I just caught the tail end some weeks ago and could not believe how corny and bad it was. And also I have heard a few other people say the same thing.
Just a heads up to those Torchwood fans in here. Coming soon to Foxtel, UKTV, a "special event" of Torchwood. A special screening over 4 nights . I think it's in June cause they haven't said an actual date yet. The previews look fantastic.
On another little note, interesting to see Today Tonight had a go at Karl Stefanovic appearing to be very "tired" on Monday morning after the Logies. I wonder how many of Seven's stars were equally "tired"? Still Nine shouldn't have let him go on air. I saw a bit of it and he was even more embarrassing than usual. I felt sorry for poor Lisa. I admire the way she handled it. It must have been very tempting to hurl a glass of water over his stupid head!
Darren I can tell you why this little black duck is not watching MadMen - cos she ahs seen the series just recently... and please do not think it then means I watch 20 to 1 or 2.5 men - would rather have an operation (any sort) sans drugs than be subject to that tripe...However I will confess to Grey's. Plus am enjoying Heroes. Looking forward to new Silent witness in a couple of weeks which may give you something to watch on fridays.
Read today Myf W has burnt her Logie dress - as I was at a wedding sunday evening I managed to miss the Logies - although from what I have heard not a great loss for me - but have to ask was her dress really that bad?
Taped MM - yet to see it, caught Media Watch, very interesting to watch 20 years in one hour. Who knew that that haircut made Monica Attard look younger? And yes, John Laws has aged very well indeed.
Cathy, in reply to Myf's dress, it really was that bad.
Personally I can't wait for the 4 Corners story on League - they will have dug where no-one else has been - they are being very quiet at the moment on detail -I bet the ABC lawyers have been working overtime before it goes to air.
Re: Myf's dress - yes it really was that bad. But I still love her.
John Laws aged well? Must be all the Valvoline. You know what I mean.
Watched Media Watch last night just to see the John Safran/Ray Martin stoush. A doozy!
As for this whole Sharks (who are going down the tubes hee hee haa haa ho ho)/Johns/NZ/Orgy Shock! Horror! Scandal. A ponderance. Had this all come to light in 2002, the same year Johns started on The Footy Show, would he still be a figurehead today? NRL's poster boy cheats on his wife and engages in group nasty. Then again Channel Nork still worship at the altar of his brother who used illegal substances during his playing career. Drugs and sex, it's right up the alley of Channel Nork.
Whilst it currently looks good for 9 to win the week, they've lost unlosable weeks before. Depending on how strong 7 is tonight, they usually win Friday by around 8 - 11%, it could be quite close, and all come down to Saturday.
Just an advance request TM, I'd be very interested to see how Today on Saturday (or whatever it's called) goes tomorrow, and also how the opposition on 7, Saturday Disney goes. Cheers.
Why don't enough people watch Mad Men - because the show has a fairly limited appeal, to only more discerning viewers and because I can watch it online (where I don't have to put up with SBS's commercial breaks), plus it took too long to air on Aus TV.
Tribsl Mind remarks: Been out for six months on DVD, which is how I watch it.
TM, do you have any ratings for the Friday night late rugby league telecast of Australia vs New Zealand and City vs Country broadcast in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth from 12:30am Saturday morning?
Tribal Mind replies: Can't see anything resembling that description and I've been down to program number 250 in the chart (2009 UEFA CUP SEMI FINAL LIVE RPT SBS 1,000). What station would it have been on, what else might it have been called, and why on earth do you care??
Seeing as how 4 corners wants to drag up 7 year old allegations of sexual misconduct by an NRL or group of NRL players.
I look forward to their investigation of a lot o old sexual misconduct allegations against AFL players and others.
But I wont hold my breath
Don't hold your breath John. Unless, of course, you are waiting for another good news story about AFL on the ABC.
It seems curious to me that they are able to dredge up a seven year old scandal about rugby league about the same time the AFL push into western Sydney is starting to look shakey.
I agree with Dave, I wanted to know how the rugby league test rated in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth (it's ranked #156 in the Saturday chart). Given it pulled huge figures in Sydney and Brisbane (the hype surrounding the Aussies taking revenge over their shock loss at the Rugby League World Cup to the Kiwis last year), I would have thought that had the game been shown in primetime in Melbourne it would have attracted at least 200,000 viewers, pushing the national total to around 1.1 million.
Tribal Mind asks: I have been through all 801 programs on the weekly charts for Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, and the nearest thing to what you and Dave seem to be describing is "Nine's Friday Night football late", which got 16,000 in Melbourne, 7,000 in Adelaide, and 6,000 in Perth.
Dave & Johnson
The Autrali-wide total for the RL Test was about 1.645 million. The Regional figure was 643,000; it can be found here:

I am pretty sure it was now the most watched game of football of any code in Australia so far this year.

Good god, Gretel Gretel Gretel. Ouch. Not good. And for all that fuss about hiding her hair for weeks so she could do the "big reveal" of her new haircut at the Logies - it was horrifically ugly and made her look truly awful. I think that was the worst Logies I have seen. Seriously. When you are wishing for Eddie Maguire to take over, you know it's bad!
On the bonus side, there were quite a few awful outfits to keep me entertained - Julia Zemiro stood out as looking truly appalling. And I don't know why all of the gossip columns are raving about Kirsty Hinze's dress - she looked like she was dressed in her nanna's quilt...
