The ratings race, updated 10 am Sunday
Having two hit shows is not enough. Underbelly wins Monday night for Nine, and Two and a Half Men performs well every night, but Seven has fallen into the comfortable pattern of averaging 29.4 per cent of the prime time audience, while Nine manages 27.8, Ten 21.5, ABC 16.0 and SBS 5.3. The only difference this week will be a rise for the ABC, thanks to the arrival of The Gruen Transfer. Lets call it now: Nine is stuffed for the year.
Here's Pay TV's account of itself for the week: "On Saturday evening, Live: Sound Relief Melbourne was watched by an average 220,000 viewers, while Live: Sound Relief Sydney was watched by 121,000 people. Across the day, 1.2m viewers turned into the concerts, which were broadcast live in their entirety by Channel [V] from the MCG in Melbourne and by Max from the SCG in Sydney. In other entertainment programming this week, Twister on TV1 was watched by 122,000 people.
"In sport, Live: Cricket: Test RSA v AUS Day 4 S1 was watched by 353,000 people, the first week of the NRL saw 296,000 viewers watch Live: NRL Bulldogs v Sea Eagles and 241 watch Warrior v Eels. Live: Rugby Union: S14 Brum v Waratahs was seen by 120,000 subscribers. STV channels accounted for 24.5% of all metropolitan viewing between 6am and midnight, was 22.5% of all regional viewing and 61.8% of all viewing in subscription TV homes."

The ratings race, updated 10 am Friday
Channel Nine staged a recovery last night, thanks mainly to Bert Newton and the biffo yobbos. Audience shares at this point in the week are close: Seven 29.2 per cent, Nine 28.3, Ten 22.2, ABC 15.2, SBS 5.1. Seven will win tonight, but if Nine has programmed cleverly on Saturday night, there could be a surprise on Sunday -- which you will read in this space when you come back from church.

Considering its timeslot, you'd have to call Lie To Me the first new hit of the year. There is no other program that can pull 1.1 million viewers at 9.30 pm. The rest of the novelties this year have already sunk below the magic million mark.
At this point in the week, Seven has 29.7 per cent of the prime time audience, with Nine on 28.0, Ten on 22.7, ABC on 14.4, and SBS on 5.2.

Channel Seven won the night, and there's no reason to think it won't win the week and the year. More importantly, what did we make of Lost in Austen? Its audience must be a grave disappointment for the ABC, given the publicity.

Loved "Lost in Austen" last night. Always love the Bonnet drama anyway but this new twist to an old story was just brilliant. Well acted and the hunk playing Darcy had just enough of Mr Firth in him to make my night. Looking forward to next Sunday for part 2.
And not a bare boob to be had!
TM liked your article being on the same page as Annabelle. Sat's SMH is a 2 day effort in our house
Really enjoyed Lost in Austen, well acted & written, this Darcy is more sullen than the Firth version, looking forward to next week. The figures are disappointing, but when you look at all the 8:30 shows the figures aren't all that great either. Wild Caribbean was good but not in the same league as Wild China. So Ch9 now only has Monday as a "win", so it looks like it's Ch7 all the way.
I thought 'Lost in Austen' was ever so delightful. That spiffing young thespian who played Mr Darcy bore an uncanny likeness to a certain Mr Firth would not one say? I'm beginning to channel Yoda. Really liked it I did.
Went and saw 'Watchmen' on Saturday and have to agree the violence is quite ...violent. I should really pay more attention to that MA: Strong Violence thingy. I closed my eyes too, tqd (refer to last week's comments). Not sure if that makes me a wimp or a human. Other than that I enjoyed it. And good to see someone play Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' in an appropriate place for a change, ie: not at a funeral and not as an opener for the Pope by an ex-Australian Idol. All those Katholic Kiddies swaying and crying to a song about sexual ecstacy....ha!
And thanks for the info on 'The Wire' (last week).....you know who you are.
biggest loser did well last night!! dance was down a bit which was weird considering they had a guest judge. rove did well again, ten will be hoping to sign him on for 2010 i bet! one thing ten need to do is axe out of the blue on sundays!! its a shocking lead in for a sunday night!!
Tribal Mind observes: But wasn't the guest judge seriously annoying?
I really enjoyed "Lost in Austen" last night (even though due to a stuff-up in the recording schedule, I watched it in all sorts of strange orders). Dying to know how they're going to resolve all the plot changes! Lovely casting & character tweaks, I think it was nice having the Bennett women a bit sparklier overall (Mary, I'm looking at you). And just how creepy and odious was Mr Collins? *shudder* Can't wait for next Sunday night.
darren, apparently there are *different* versions of "Hallelujah" around. One which is about God, and another one which is about bonking. Presumably the right ones are chosen for the right occasions, although probably not if the Channel 10 programming monkeys are involved. (This is info from Mr TQD, as we discussed this during the credits on Friday night, so all complaints and corrections to him, thanks.)
It has been confirmed. All new SCRUBS has a new home at 8pm Mondays from next week on Seven.
Em and Darren - I never thought I would have to say this, but you have gone too far. Wash your mouths out with soap and water as there is no way that young pup last night on Lost In Austen bears any resemblance to Colin. Well, they are both male but that's about it. There is no-one like Colin Firth and I'm sure there's another dried up, middle-aged housewife out there who agrees with me.
Tribal Mind remarks: I thought he loked like a croiss between Heathg Ledger and the next Dr Who
Lost in Austen was not the full episode .A large scene was cut out . Downtown song was cut out by ABC. The show was spoilt. Please see the dvd version. Nothing rude or crude just a song. Vital to the plot.
Tribal Mind replies: I bet it was a copyright issue. But I'll check with ABC.
I don't know who was to blame for my TV Guide but it listed Lost in Austen as running between 8:30 and 9:25. I set my tape but lost the last half hour. If a lot of other people were in the same boat, it may explain why ratings dropped off.
WTF happened to 24 last night? Ch7 put a 30 minute doco about some weird crime so 24 started at 11pm instead of 10.30pm. Give us some warning at least!
There is only one Colin Firth, and having qualified as a dried up middle-aged housewife I agree with you Shoopie.
Not a bad variant of Mr Darcy, but he seemed a little bit too young. And yes TM, reminded me of the New Doctor.
Anyhow a very interesting twist on Pride & Prejudice last night, although I could have done without the explanation about why Mr Collins was sniffing his hand.
I would have liked a littke more about what Elizabeth Bennett was doing in the modern day - even if she was just sitting there watching Bridget Jones' Diary (having stumbled upon Channel Shirl).
Doug and TM, it was a copyright issue like the Westside Story episode of Hamish Macbeth which was In on the first showing, then Out on the DVD but back In on the repeats on ABC2.
I thought LIA was excellent, but a tad too long. I would have preferred it over four weeks not two. The characters all had delightful twists which made them not quite like Austen wrote them. Mr Collins was indeed odious!!!
Genfie, the same thing happened to me with the first episode of Cranford. The Guide on my DVD HDD thingy and the nespaper both showed one episode and I missed a chunk in the middle when they showed two. I set the timer for a huge amount after the advertised time just in case last night (And if I read all the comments properly I wouldn't have had to post twice. Sorry about my inefficiency. I plead a new puppy)
"it was a copyright issue like the Westside Story episode of Hamish Macbeth which was In on the first showing, then Out on the DVD but back In on the repeats on ABC2" says 2PAW.
What was the issue re "Westside Story" with Hamish? ...
And re 24 - 7's not receptive to the low ratings this season is getting and moved it back to 11pm Sudays. We did get warning thru the TV Tonight website. But it does raise the issue re people timeshifting these 'cult' programmes. In our home, we prefer to timeshift most shows - in 2 cases per week we record 7's Sunday & Monday pm programmes between @ 8 and midnight. Then we catch the eps when it suits us. Methinks there's many more out there in the same boat. Perhaps, Mr D, you could seek responses through your pages...? (apologies for writing more than 50 words...)
Tribal Mind replies: What's with the apology? This blog has never imposed any word limit on comments. Some of the responses to my Sunday "Who We Are" blog are closer to 500 words.
Re the annoying judge on SYTYCDA: Nah i love mary, she is hilarious, its something to laugh at during the show and is also something different. its like a touchdown for the contestants
Re: Mr Darcy.....brown hair + frowns = Colin Firth (although I was never good at maths).
Re: 'Hallelujah', I don't buy that 'several different versions' excuse (even if it's true). I think that's just a back-door way of getting a decent song into the show to tug at heartstrings and that's not 'Candle in the Wind'. Damien Leith singing it at WYD last year took the cake. The meaning gets revised and revised and manipulated to suit occasions where the planners can't be bothered tracking down an appropriate song and just settle for one that sounds spiritual and lo! it turns up at a memorial service for The Bushfire Victims, Kev Rudd teary and placing wreaths and the 'Sunrise' crew swaying in the background.
Maybe there's a version of 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' that can be bent to use in an ad for QANTAS? Or a version of 'Blowing in the Wind' that could be used in a perfume ad......
I can't believe I said 'Lo!"......it's that damn Austen.
I'm sorry if I offended in any way in regards to my comments about the young Mr Darcy. Yes, I know no one can replace Mr Firth but you have to admit the young actor chosen did a decent job of it. I know there is only ONE Mr Darcy really and everyone else is just a pale imitation.
Speaking of Mr Firth I understand there is some new movie coming out in which he stars? Saw a brief preview last night on the telly but didnt catch what it was called as I was busy yelling at son at the time. Didn't see another ad for it last night. Anyone know what it is called?
Sorry folks but "Lost in Austen" was dull confused, overplayed and lacked the subtlety and refinement one would expect if it was a true homage to Jane Austen. Rather it was "neighbours" meets Jane Austen, a mess and all will be neatly resolved next week. Watched it all but won't next week.
Tribal Mind asks: Jesus, what do you want? It was an attempt to popularise a classic text, and even then, it couldn't get more than 800,000 viewers. How would you have developed the idea?
I'm really disappointed to hear that Lost In Austen has been cut, I don't think I'll bother watching it now. Don't care why it was cut, just that it is incomplete.
Re time-shifting: yes, I do it with nearly everything left that I watch on FTA. Exceptions are made for channel 2 - no ads of course.
It's not just a matter of time-shifting, but also time-saving.
Each 1 hour program is really only about 41 minutes long. Who needs to waste 20 minutes every hour, watching ads?
The Office from Sunday night, which I watched last night, had ads which were absolutely disgusting, even in fast forward - tarts with stars covering their rude bits. Yuk. For phone sex lines, I think? Don't know. The Office joins the D/L list.
Tribal Mind remarks: I checked with the ABC. All that is missing is Miss Price.singing Downtown. The producers did not obtain world rights to the song, only British rights,
Re Hamish MacBeth David, it was an episode where the village was putting on a production of Westside Story: West COast Story. I googled for more info to make sure I had remembered correctly!!
Wikipaedia(sic) says "The series were released on DVD in the UK and the US in 2005 and 2006 with the exception of the first series episode West Coast Story. This was due to rights issues surrounding the episode's extensive use of excerpts from West Side Story"
So the episode was in, then out in repeats, and though I missed it this time round on ABC2 I am reliably informed that it was in again.
whoops, em, I hope you didn't think I was serious!
That move with Colin Firth is meant to be a remake of something, the movie is "Easy Virtue". Meant to be a "social comedy".
I agree,Sal.Late night tv ads are disgusting .I will send an email to the Senators with balance of power. They may be interested especially Senator Fielding.Trying to watch Letterman etc is impossible. Sbs show that disgusting ad with2 men playing a piano with their erect penisis.Surely there should be some legislation to ban these ads. If you record something you can not let the kids see it !!
Thanks 2paw - just checked my DVD copy of series 1 and, sure enough, NO Ep 4 West Coast Story!!! Hope the series gets another run on ABC or UKTV so I can add that ep to my collection.
Re: Em, "Anyone know what it is called?" I'm not sure, but was it Easy Virtue, also starring Jessica Biel, Kristin Scott Thomas and directed by Stephan Elliott? He's also going to be in another period later this year (or next year) in Dorian Grey.
Agree TM that Elliot Cowan bears some resemblance to Heath Ledger. When he moved the vase at the dining table, what a shoo in!
Who else is looking forward to Rogue Nation (7.30pm, Sun - just before LIA)? It looks mighty interesting. And yay! The Gruen Transfer returns next Wednesday (18/3) at 9pm. It's going to be another good ABC lineup the following week too when Lawrence Leung's Choose Your Own Adventure airs 25/3 9.30pm. I've been waiting for this show - so here's hoping it's good.
Quoth darren: "I can't believe I said 'Lo!"......it's that damn Austen." Austen is *good* for you. I have startled people with unusual vocab ("behoove", thank you Mary Bennett) when doing the crossword at the cafe. Plus, it's also damned good fun.
I have downloaded copies of Lost in Austen from a friend (but haven't watched them), and I knew we were somehow getting a different version because IMDB lists it as four episodes, yet ABC is screening it as two. I may have to dust off the downloaded versions to see "Downtown". :)
so david, do you like biggest loser? dance? rove? underbelly?
Ned this is 'Lost in Austen' that was on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's channel on Sunday night you're speaking of I assume? Perchance was there another one that you saw that was deficient in your opinion? I didn't think it was a homage to Jane Austen but a delicate and playful addition to the well-worn story. Overplayed because it's a self-knowing parody. I thought the script was ever so lightly executed sir, and in addition and conclusion may I say I believe Ms. Austen would be amused and indeed heartened, yea verily. Good day.
Tqd, it behooves me to add, apologies for the 'Hallelujah' thing. I find that sort of thing somewhat irksome (Katie from Big Brother maintaining that making a move on someone else's girlfriend is 'cutting their lunch' still gets me steamed). Found myself in a rather heated temperament all day yesterday. In a fit of pique thought: next thing there'll be a prayer adapted from 'When Harry Met Sally' ie: "Oh God Oh God Oh God Yes Yes Yes Oh God!". Maybe for Easter services???
Then I felt better.
Shoopie, I know you were being tongue in cheek regarding Mr Firth etc. Did I sound a bit too serious in my reply?
And thanks, my fellow bloggers, for the title of that movie with Mr Firth, "Easy Virtue". Shall have to put it on the list of movies to see. Though don't seem to have the time to get to the cinema at the moment. Wanted to see "Last Chance Harvey" as Dustin Hoffman has always been one of my fav actors but haven't seen it yet. Anyone here seen it?
Great to hear that Gruen Transfer is coming back. Hope Will Anderson tones down the stupid jokes a bit though. He can be a tad annoying at times.
Oh, I feel like one of the gang again!
Last night I recorded #4 RSPCA Animal Rescue and #5 NCIS, and also D/L #11 Lie To Me.
Lowest Common Denominator - here I come!
Darren I have not yet viewed Lost in Austen but I endorse your embracing of all things refined - I found merriment in your sentiments.
On to things at the opposite end of the refinement spectrum - heard a rumour that Wipeout may be wiped out. Would be a nice truth.
darren, 'cutting their lunch'? I have no idea what that even means, unless it's some sort of slavish devotion to a small child. (Here, honey, let Mummy cut that Vegemite sandwich down to size. Triangles or squares?) Which doesn't quite fit the Big Brother context.
And early onset Alzheimer's has definitely hit. I haven't caught a single episode of 30 Rock yet this year. At least I'm missing out on the late night ads, I guess.
But I did remember to watch Jennifer Byrnes Presents last night (literary hoaxes). Good fun, and some interesting ideas popping up. And no one offering to cut anyone else's lunch, which must be a bonus.
Can't remember where I read it, but some TV boffin somewhere, in all of their "wisdom" (and I'm using the term advisedly) has renewed 2 1/2 Men for 3, yes 3, more seasons. Oh TV programmers, what have I done, that thou dar'st wag thy tongue in noise so rude against me?
In keeping wiith merry ol england.....
A Tuesday evenings viewing was duth grieviously disturbed with the Foreign Correspondent expose on the American health system. My jaw dropped upon the floor in watching the cost of getting medical attendance in Texas where 1 poor unfortunate had to hand over $45,000 to perchance get an appointment to have a diagnosis of lukemia. Quite pleased they are no longer part of the Empire. Verily verily I say under thee hold onto Medicare & the PBS system with your dear lives or the same may happen to us colonials!!
Tim Roth makes Lie to Me what it is - good viewing. I wonder how long Peter Overton will last as anchor, seeing that results aren't that impressive. Why oh why do a lot of people think 2 1/2 Men is funny? This keeps on going when plenty other good shows get axed. (I'm still very sore about Arrested Development).
Em wrote: Wanted to see "Last Chance Harvey" as Dustin Hoffman has always been one of my fav actors but haven't seen it yet. Anyone here seen it?
Yes em I saw it on Sunday and the first thing to enjoy was the adult audience without a single phone ringing or with anyone chattering through the important bits. It is a lovely, enjoyable, low key movie with good performances by Hoffman and Emma Thompson (my reason for seeing it and possibly a temptation for TM). It was the first movie I have gone to see in its first week for quite a while. Oh and if you do see the movie stay past the first few minutes of the credits as there is a nice little vignette added.
PJ453 wrote: A Tuesday evenings viewing was duth grievously disturbed with the Foreign Correspondent expose on the American health system. I saw that story and recalled getting into see a Sydney haematologist within an hour when I was thought to have Leukaemia (thankfully erroneously) and TV gave me yet another "thank god I live here" moment. The news programs have been doing that quite a lot lately.
Lost in Austen was 4 eps long in the UK. I expect the ABC have just put two eps back to back when broadcasting it.
I bought the DVD from the UK before Xmas and loved it, couldn't wait to find out how it all ended. The singing of Downtown was cut from the DVD as well as they generally neg the rights different from broadcast TV to DVD release though you wonder why today. I don't think it spoiled it, it was only about 20 sec and I could understand it from what I saw.
There was one other things cut from the DVD, someone's mobile had a ringtone for the original P&P.
Re ads, there is less than 5 minutes between a number of ad breaks which are nearly 4 mins in the US version of LOM.
WOW..The Footy Guide cover is all class...You had time to pull Stewart from it. And why the Hoppawatte finger bottom left...what a joke, what a disgrace...Editor really doing a good job there, tell Homer Simpson to change profressions...Laughing stock
Tribal Mind asks: What on earth are you referring to?
Okay I'll bite....making a move on someone else's significant other is known colloquially as 'cutting their grass'.
A 'cut lunch' is what happens ...um....to things...er...as a result of unroomy shorts. For men. It's all cut in half. Which makes your suggestion tqd about vegemite sandwiches and mommy and triangles v squares very very disturbing. And I probably shouldn't have said "I'll bite" in this context either.
Gretel Killeen really should've put her foot down. There's also no such word as 'confliction' as in "I didn't like go into the you know like house to you know like cause confliction and stuff hey? Like"..... (what's worse, Big Brother or an Ice-pick in the eye?).
I once had someone tell me that "Hellenic" meant the pursuit of an endlessly pleasurable lifestyle. I suppose then that "Hedonistic" pertains to Greek culture?
The dummies are winning. Cultural revisionism is continuing apace and the appropriation of 'Hallelujah' is just the tip of the iceberg people. Time to take to the streets with your OED's.
Bereft Skerrick, re: 'Two and a Half Men', methinks the maiden doth protest too much. Or is that mucheth? Does thy heart beat for Charlie Sheen perhaps?
I have to go now I've made myself rather ill....
Thank you, Harry for your comments about "Last Chance Harvey". I will take myself posthaste to the nearest Greater Union whereby I willst view said film.
Hmm..This Elizabethan english is a bit hard to get one's head around. Methinks we should return to 21st Century langauge. Like, you know, like REAL people talk, like?
Gave up on House half way through last night. It was so damn annoying I couldn't stand it anymore. I am so sick of the tired old format and his tired old character. Talk about "jumping the shark."
Tribal MInd asks: Elizabethan? Surely you mean Georgian?
Quoth darren: "Which makes your suggestion tqd about vegemite sandwiches and mommy and triangles v squares very very disturbing."
It does rather. Thanks for the enlightenment regarding cut grass & cut lunches. I shall never look at vegemite sandwiches the same way again. (Dare I ask what the difference is between a cut lunch and a camel toe? Or are they gender specific? Or are we in the gutter too far already?)
Mr Dale, we started with Georgian, but there's been a definite Shakespearean twang to some of our rantings as well. Yea, and verily.
Regarding House, I'm wondering how long the sidekicks will last. Taub really bugs me. Yes, em, definitely like agree the way like REAL people talk is like so much easier, lol gtg.
I had the misfortune to tune into 'The Pam Ann Show' on the Comedy Channel last night. I don't mind satirical characters hosting their own show in the manner of Dame Edna Everage, Norman Gunston, Effie etc, so I thought this might be worthy of a look in. I thought I was watching the Community Television channel.
The host struggled to get any laughs from the audience and resorted to coarse language and shock tactics to get any reaction. There were a couple of hilarious lines from guest Dr Cindy Pan but overall the show was just terrible. The opportunity for an interesting interview with Olympian Matthew Mitcham was completely wasted by involving him in stupid, smutty stuff that wasn’t even funny.
Seemed like a good idea for a show but the opportunity has been completely wasted.
darren: I avoid 2 1/2 Men like the Plague. Now if it was starring Colin Firth it'd be a different matter. Sheen does bring the pretty though. But I can honestly say I've never watched an episode.
Watched The Movie Show last night to see the review of "Easy Virtue" and noticed that Mr Firth smokes. How tragic!
Be afraid, fellow bloggers, be very afraid - have just read that "they" are penning Underbelly 3 so am fully prepared for full frontal nudity. I foresee that there will be no problems with cut lunches if that is the case.
J Bar is on the money re: Pam Ann.
100% hopeless!
How on earth will they stretch it to eight half hour episodes?
Pam's stage show is tired enough.. i mean the same joke for 20 years has worn thin... but there was absoltuely nothing different between the stage content and the Comedy Channel episode... right down to the swearing at audience members and ridiculing their country of origin.
Bob Downe is infinitely better than Pam and Comedy/Fox would ahve done better to bring Bob back to the small screen.
Actually darren, there is such a saying as 'to cut someone's lunch' which means the same as 'to cut someone's grass', that is, put the moves on someone's partner. Meanwhile, a 'cut lunch' is not gender specific and can be the same as a 'camel toe'. The gender specific male equivalent that I have heard recently is 'fly's eyes'. Too much information yet?
You learn so much from 'Tribal Mind'. The online 'Urban Dictionary' comes in handy for confirming all these bits of slang too but be warned, there's a lot of stuff on there that you may wish you didn't know.
We too watched The Movie Show & the comment was made re Easy Virtue that the more we saw Colin Firth the more he looked like Dylan Moran of Black Books. I guess we can now move onto writing as if we are Noel Coward ?
Our No1 show on tonight, that being Grand Designs, even if it is an old series.
Funniest thing EVER on TV this morning.
I was watching Sunrise (no idea why) and the guy they were interviewing had The Today show on in the background.. At the end of the interview Kochie said that he hopes next time they chat he will change the channel first. lol..
The schedule for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 2011 was released this afternoon, and it is mixed news for Channel Nine, which shares the Australian rights for the event with Fox Sports. Nine will probably show the final live on Sunday evening, October 23. But the bad news is that the first half of the tournament clashes with Nine's coverage of the NRL finals. So much so the opening game between New Zealand and Tonga on Friday, September 9, may not even be shown live because it clashes with the NRL qualifying final, and Nine probably won't move the 6pm news and A Current Affair just to show the RWC match. It will be interesting to see how Nine will keep fans of both rugby codes happy from September 9 to October 2, 2011 (the day of NRL Grand Final).
J Bar to 'cut someone's lunch' may mean to make a move on someone's girlfriend NOW, of course it might mean that NOW, since THAT incident where Katie (& others) decided it did but I'm standing my ground on this one. 'Cutting someone else's grass' has a clear meaning ie: you're overstepping your boundaries, but who cares if someone was to 'cut your lunch' (we're assuming it's not referring to a parting of the goolies here)? I'd say thankyou. For cutting my lunch. Did you take off the crusts? Doesn't translate. Maybe the Urban Dictionary was updated circa 2004 or whenever it was that Katie met Jamie and the same thing happened that always happens when idiots meet. Idiocy.
On one side are the genitalia-related euphemisms (cut lunch, fly's eyes, camel toe) and on the other side are the boundary-issue metaphors (cut my grass,.... mayb.......water my lawn, weed my patch and I'm beginning to see the temptation for a cross-over).......
I'm at least 40% sure that I'm correct.
TM can you adjudicate (if you care)?
This conversation is evidence that there's precious little on TV worth discussing if nothing else isn't it?
Tribal Mind adjudicates: Cutting someone's lunch, grass, nails, corners etc are all metaphors based on the biblical story in which Delilah cut Samson's hair in order to weaken him.
TM
With The Footy Show's Return can you provide the ratings for both the early and late editions? Thanks
Tribal Mind replies: Oh allright, as long as you promise me it won't encourage the networks to run more biffo.
Disgustingly high ratings for AO 20 to 1. I hope it dies soon.
PJ453: I watched "Grand Designs" as well last night! It's on at an awful timeslot for those of us who are working-with-kids, but I managed to be home early and hit record and watched it after the kids went to bed. (They were slightly interested, until they realised there weren't going to be any lightsabers.) Great stuff, even with (or maybe because of) the lack of lightsabers.
I also caught a bit of that baby raising doco on ABC1 at 8:30 until I started frothing at the mouth and throwing cushions at the TV, screaming "agenda! agenda! agenda!". I have a Serious Problem with people who have rigorous theories about how to raise kids. (Although I did like the idea of having two babies upstairs asleep while I partied on downstairs. Only, in all honesty, I'd be in my trakky daks, trying to find something good on tv, rather than hosting a party.) I even got in a bitch about it with my mum on the phone this morning, so obviously its annoyance levels cross all sorts of generation gaps.
I like the term "fly's eyes". It's gruesomely descriptive.
tqd: the thing that grated with me on the baby show of which you speak was the complete unwillingness of any of the 3 "experts" to concede that any part of the others' method was appropriate. Especially the younger one who kept on interrupting everyone else but was quick to say "I haven't finished" when professing her point of view.
Unwittingly I guess I followed along the Dr Spock method. I guess that's why my kids are such SciFi fans. Not logical :)
Biffo back on for me tonight; I'll be glued to the TV set @ 7:30pm to watch my beloved Dragons. St Wayne has come and he'll make everything alright :) Or is there more chance that I'd watch 2 1/2 Men?
Samson & Delilah eh?
I'll take that as the final word.
Nice tie-in with 'Hallelujah' too.....or was that David and Bathsheba? Something about stealing a throne and cutting some lunch...sorry, hair.
i cant believe how good 20 to 1 is doing! its a shocking show! bert has that much makeup on he looks fake!
Whoa - that's some high rating 20 to 1 is getting. Maybe people hoping for the Adults Only part - just like U2.
"Maybe people hoping for the Adults Only part - just like U2" - says Kym in a para about Adult 20-1. Let's hope the Nork Network isn't planning on revealing Bert's Man Boobs...
tqd - Since there is only MrsPJ me & the dog it's easy to ensure we watch Grand Designs, but I have to tell you we even changed our grocery shopping day to ensure we didn't miss it.
tqd & Bereft - As we are well past the baby stage we didn't bother watching the baby show. But interestingly our young married son & daughter in law were raving about it. In our day (when tv was in black & white) there wasn't any of these sort of shows aired so you just winged it plus whatever you gleaned from from your own parents. Sure there was the Dr Spock books, but who read a book to tell you how to bring up children ??
Oh & Bereft.....you'll need more than St Wayne to go better this year!!
In the Apple Isle we had to wait till 11-59am today to see BH&G. You never know when it will be on, it's like TV Tattslotto. But that's the price we, apparently, have to pay for living here.
Tribal Mind wonders: That's weird. What did Channel Seven show instead of Better Homes at 7.30?
TM: I'm guessing that only Sydney and Melbourne got Game 1 of the NRL last night. And the Sydney figure for the AFL was because it was shown at some ungodly hour.
PJ453: they need better options in defence and for Mr Wendell to stop making stupid mistakes.
As usual a 7:30pm game never starts at 7:30pm due to Channel Nork asshattery so was able to pick up my catered meal from The Golden Arches on the way home!
Tribal Mind replies: You're probably right. I must apologise for the fact that I can never understand why an intelligent person would regard any form of football as other than a nuisance that prevents TV networks from showing interesting programs.
Dear TM, our Southern Cross station, which most amusingly broadcasts as Channel 9, is Channel 7 and Channel 10 smooshed together. We also receive Channel 10 as TDT: a digital station. WIN (the mainland Channel 9) still has the Nine logo but is on Channel 6. You need all your wits about you here, which is why we need two heads!! Football takes precedence over all other programming: we all know Sport is King. Most Fridays we have sport at 7pm or 7-30pm and you have to be on the look out for BH&G. Some times, shock-horror, even Home and Away is displaced!!!
Tribal Mind replies: Just as well you are not part of the rating system.

I taped Lost in Austen, but saw most of it. Thought it was good, very good being an ITV production. Now there are talks of it becoming a movie. Just hoping Keira "Clenched teeth" won't be a part of it!
