The nominations are in. Now all we need are the votes. Readers responded with malicious enthusiasm to this column's call for audience participation in The 2008 Bogie Awards for the most annoying, embarrassing, overhyped and underrated programs, personalities and ads on Australian television.
Now, in the spirit of Big Brother, Australian Idol, It Takes Two, Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance Australia, we want to give you the illusion that you can make a difference. Lets hear your judgements, below, on the content of this nation's favourite way of wasting time during the past 12 months ...

How bitchy some people can be! How do they know about all these programs and presenters they dislike if they don't watch them? "Unnecessary" programs and personalities can be controlled by the off switch - it's very simple! I haven't watched "Animal emergency" but anything that increases compassion to the other inhabitants of our planet sounds like a good idea to me. I enjoyed "The Chaser" but it was due for a break as nothing is more tiring bordering on dangerous than tired satire. SBS is great though you have to select programs. Leave beautiful clever Juanita alone.
Most of all there are other things to do beside watching telly - find out about some of them!

Patricia, while your views are most welcome, if you were a regular reader or blogger you would realise our Bogie noms are all in the name of fun and frivolity. We do this to take our minds off the dreadful crap that is churned out as entertainment from our TV networks.
Yes, we do know we could employ the use of the "off" switch but we prefer to watch and whinge -it's fun and I'm sure you felt so much better after your little vent. Finally, and most importantly, it is the purpose of this blog to air our comments, grievances etc re TV and "celebrities".

Furthest past use-by date (the Bert Newton Trophy): Darryl Sommers/Richard Wilkins. Sommers should never have been let back on TV - his humour is still 30 years old - no wonder he's hosting the Nanna programme Dancing With the Stars, and Wilkins should never have been on in the first place.

The only choice for MOST JERKED AROUN BY THE NETWORKS tv show is:
FARSCAPE
Channel 9 gave up on the show before it was even broadcast, who in their right mind would debut a new TV show at 8:30 on a Saturday night?
After 6 episodes, it was taken off air because of poor ratings, gee funny that eh?, but returned up against the Sydney 2000 Olympics coverage, and therefore ignored by most of the ratings audience.
The second season was edited down to a G rating, and shown before the 6PM news , and the third season was shown late at night, in every dead end timeslot imaginable.
CHANNEL 9 HAS NOT SHOWN THE 4TH SEASON 5 YEARS AFTER THE SHOW FINISHED IN AMERICA.
And this was for a TV show made in Sydney, by a mostly Australian cast and crew.
Perhaps David, you might like to ask David Gyngell when Farscape might be back on Ch 9, or if he could let the ABC buy it, and run it instead.

I believe you've omitted one seriously needed category.
What about the "He must be someone's love child" or "He has the negatives" Award?
The winner just has to be the all pervasive, seemingly omnipresent and incredibly annoying Tom Petrovsky (?) presenting the CommBank (paid advertising) for financial summaries across every television network news - many radio stations and yes - even the ABC radio!!
It's enough to drive anyone away from the stockmarket for ever.

For me the most irritating presentation was Nine's "International Summer of Cricket" which ought to have been called "Summer of Advertisements". Advertisements between every over, superimposed on the cricket and out of the mouths of the "commentators". It was a sickening demonstration of greed for revenue which spoilt the cricket.

CHANNEL 9 HAS NOT SHOWN THE 4TH SEASON 5 YEARS AFTER THE SHOW FINISHED IN AMERICA.
Oh, Mark. Get over it, buy the DVD's they only cost $40 a season. Learn to live with the fact that a Sci Fi fan in Australia is either going to have to pay for Foxtel or DVD's or illegally download if they are going to watch the shows they like.
We'll never see them at a regular watchable timeslot on free to air TV.

My children are mad "Robin Hood" fans on ABC. The combination of period costumes and props, with 21st century dialogue, gives it a fun, upbeat and addictive style all its own. The 16/3/08 episode included the boyzwith the Hood (aka the not so Merry men) in 40's stye full length wool coats and felt hats... looked great and as a very "in" joke worked well in my household.
Burn notice is right up there in popularity too. can't say much about it being jerked around, as I am a recent convert.

Gert, it's beside the point that you can go out and spend $40 to buy Farscape on DVD (which these days is becoming a luxury when there's petrol and mortgages to pay for).
We all love to see the shows we like on Free-To-Air. It's just like hearing your fave song on the radio despite the fact that you own every album the song ever came out on.
Sure Sci Fi fans have to live with being treated badly by the networks, but we don't have to like it.
I guess Mark could d/load it, but some are ideologically opposed to that.

Come on guys the most annoying person/persons on TV and has been for decades is Bert Newton and family.He also wins the award for the most Botox. They are in every thing. The son hangs on to daddys coat tail to get where he is. The daughter is OK but Mum and dad Get off tv. your use by date is well and truly past it.
